BROOMBALL
WHAT IS BROOMBALL?
Broomball is a sport similar to ice hockey but with notable differences. It’s played on an ice rink in shoes, not skates, with teams of 6 players (goalie, 2 defenders, 3 forwards) and reserves. Players aim to score goals using a 5-inch ball and paddle-shaped sticks. Games have two 20-minute periods and are officiated by two referees.
Broomball is a global sport, enjoyed in tournaments, social settings, and league events, promoting both competition and camaraderie.
INCLUSIVITY & GAMEPLAY
Broomball is accessible to all since skating skills aren’t required. Leagues vary from competitive to social, with teams for men, women, and coed players. Popular in countries like Canada and the USA, the sport offers different skill levels, culminating in national and world championships.
EQUIPMENT
Broomball shoes with soft rubber soles for traction.
A basketball-like ball (5-inch diameter).
Modern paddle-shaped sticks with wooden or aluminum shafts.
Mandatory helmets, knee/elbow protection, optional hip padding, and specialized gloves.
